Short Bio
Mona Caron is a Swiss-born, San Francisco based professional visual artist, muralist, and illustrator since 1996, focussing on site-specific and community-informed murals in public spaces since 1998.
Mona also occasionally collaborates with activists and communities in the creation of art and agitprop for political actions for social and environmental justice; creates fine art prints in various intaglio techniques; and illustrates books, event posters, and more.
Mona's murals often feature miniature-detailed and magic-realist bird's eye views of urban public space, which chronicle the street life of each location in the past, present, and hopeful imaginary future.
Another recurring theme in Mona's murals are large scale portraits of apparently unremarkable plants, in which the contrast between the painting's heroic scale and the plant's actual fragility or lack of acknowledged value is meant as a tribute to the resilience of all those beings that may or may not fit within the designs of our society, but keep growing nonetheless.
