Below: a working sketch of the corner area at 22d St. and Church ST. (Tracing paper on a photo of the corner area.)
In some cases, the flowers are first rendered in chiaroscuro, and the color is glazed on top, as in the example below:
The Background is made of various layers: In the first, cool colors like blue and green are applied with thinned paint. The next layers are dry-brushed with thick, dense paint of warm colors.
