Bicycle mural in Medellín

This 500 foot long mural was created for the 4th World Bicycle Forum of 2015 in Medellín, Colombia, and it was designed in collaboration with Colombian artist and musician Zatélite Afrobeat.

The design is never visible in its entirety, because the mural is on a convex wall on the fast lane side of a one-way street. Because of this, it unfurls to the passing viewer from left to right, starting small with some tiny floating details, and gradually gaining in color, density and size, ending with Zaté and Mona's art interweaving in a big colorful explosion. — Go through the slideshow above to get the whole experience!

This unfurling of something big starting from something small symbolizes the impact of the small, simple choice of riding a bicycle in the city, which can end up bringing about great transformations which further the livability and liveliness of the urban environment.

 

The wall belongs to the municipality of Envigado, who sponsored the project and provided logistical support, thanks to the coordination and organization of Milenka Gherardelli on behalf of FBM4.
