Cohosh
Cohosh rising, re-wilding the city...
Cohosh is a wild medicinal herb, part of the original landscape of this built-up land. It is native to this area and specific to Brooklyn's original habitat type.
I chose it in consultation with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden native plant division, and the NYC Greenbelt Native Plant Center, and designed it for this introspective inner courtyard that will be the only view for hundreds of people.
The aim is to ground and conjure roots, by harking back down to original land; and to uplift, by leading the gaze upwards to the sky in spirals rather than in urban grids, following this plant's sinewy search for light.
