Shauquethqueat’s Eutrochium
Shauquethqueat’s Eutrochium, facing off the skyline across the Hudson. A dream of Nature winning, of plant life being the one towering over us for a change, putting us back in our place. May we learn. May they come back.
Commonly named Joe Pye weed, this wildflower is actually not a weed but a native plant in this area. Joe Pye refers to the western name of a native American healer of the 19th century, said to have utilized this plant in phytotherapy. Historians have unearthed evidence of the actual existence of this person, and of his mohican name transcribed as Shauquethqueat.
