Bicycle dandelion - cracking the cement in Porto Alegre

A simple act, like riding a bike, can crack the cement of our urban reality. Here's to spreading the seeds of a simple solution to much of what ails our urban centers. 

This piece sprouted in Porto Alegre, Brazil, shortly after the second World Bicycle Forum in 2013, a gathering of activists promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation, to which I had been invited to speak.

I interacted with the graffiti of Jotapê, as the dandelion leaves wrapped around one of his cool moscas ("flies").

We then spread those little bicycle-dandelion seeds all over town. You might still find a few at Cafe Bonobo, a delicious center of awesomeness in Porto Alegre.

P.s. - While painting this on a busy street in the Cidade Baixa, we were expecting trouble, but halfway through we were informed that the City had given us retroactive permission to do it!

It probably helped that city councilor Marcelo Sgarbossa showed images of my work at the City Council assembly to illustrate the spirit behind it, which is in line with his efforts to improve city livability.
